I thought the idea of aluminium uprights on backpacks was to allow a degree of adjustment by carefull bending to fit your individual back shape. 

On my berghaus atlas which is probably similar the metal stays are a very mild 's' to follow your back profile.

Like Hayden says, being able to bend them is a feature, not a bug.  Get them to match the specific profile of your back curvature by means of a friend and/or a mirror and a bit of trial and error.

The frame spars on my bigger packs were a mild S to start with, I very deliberately bent them further to match my own back (more of a pronouned curve around my shoulders and a wee fiddle of the slope off at the base for me, you may be different).  Very few people seem to realise this is not only possible, but can improve their pack.
