My staff buddy at the big glasgow tiso has told me they are having their yearly discount night for club members on Tuesday 29th April. He said it kicks off about 6.30ish... I think its the same as last time - its the usual 25% off mountaineering toys, ropes, harnesses etc and 15% off clothing, footwear and accessories. Quite fancy seeing if they have the new Terra Nova lightweight range of tents in.......if so, wonder if they will pitch one on the night for me?

Dammit Ive just spent all my outdoor dollars this month

Tiso's club nights just give you the prices that you can get elsewhere any night.

Hi Mike, I am confused? What do you mean.......... FW

Most outdoor shops will give a regular customer a discount at any time, not 1 or 2 nights a year. I always ask for a discount, and usually get one. I find Tiso's prices to be high and non-negotiable.

And they've been trying to sell the same ice-blue ski-jacket in their sale since 1973. But there is 10% off all goretex right now on any day of the week, and that includes boots, so they might be worth a visit. Otherwise Mike is right. BTW the Run-4-It running shoe shop inside the Tiso Outdoor Experience store has some good lightweight kit - Innov-8 etc, if only the guys downstairs in the big heavy boot department would tell people to go there!

Mike, Fair point.....they are a bit non-negiotable on the discount policy outwith the club nights. Let me know where you can get 25% off mountaineering product though please! Its seems a good offer and none of my mates have received that level of discount across the counter from other outdoor shops... FW

The discount nights thing can be a bit of a pain (Tuseday 3rd June next one in Dundee, btw), but Tiso's are not always the most expensive place. For example, when the RRP of aTarra was £585, they were selling them for £500. And then with my 15% discount-night reduction that came in at a cool £160 off the RRP! Plus they're there, there is a reasonable selection of stuff, and the staff mostly know what they're on about. Pete.

Pete, I used to shop in the Dundee store years ago - it used to be the best place to go in Dundee. FW

I live in Dundee and shop in Perth.

Mountain Supplies and Craigdon in Perth are probably better shops, but I find the 40+ mile round trip to get to them generally fails to justify itself. It's either at least time and usually money toojust getting there and back. Pete.
