Best way to visualise my Ortlieb mapcase is to grab either an OS Landranger or an OS Explorer map. Open the map once, so that it's showing all the cover on one side, and mapping on the other side. Now open it once sideways, so that you're looking at four panels of mapping at a glance. Fold the map back on itself, so that you have two panels of mapping on both sides. Now... imagine the map completely encased in transparent plastic... and that's moreorless the size of my Ortlieb. I have to say it's a bomb-proof piece of kit, and easily one of my all-time favourites. I never go anywhere without one, unless I'm using a Harveys map, which of course doesn't need a mapcase. I also use a smaller Ortlieb on rare occasions. I can fit an opened Psion 3 inside it and still type through the plastic in any kind of downpour. Again... a bomb-proof solution to a problem.
