I just thought I would try to bump this thread up maybe one more time, and for a few good reasons too.

First off, to let anyone else who hasn't read it have a possibly last chance to see it, before it gets lost amongst all the other threads here. As there may well be a few folks on here that are indeed just about to make a boots purchase, and that is the group of people that could then save themselves a bit of money perhaps even, in this very way.

Secondly to ask again for the thread poster to elaborate a little more, in answer of my original and as yet still unanswered general questions regarding his reviews website. Especially in my first asking about if it is to be only boots reviews he will be featuring, or other outdoors kit reviews as well too there? And if so, will the site only feature outdoors kit reviews then too? Or will it be featuring a whole plethora of different not outdoors connected products, being thus reviewed there too? This has not been made clear to us all still, at all I feel.

Also I wanted to again say, that I reckon that the more regular forum members here have together between them collectively, the right kind of acquired outdoors boots/footwear knowledge and real expertise that the chap is seeking, definitely. And the same goes for a plethora of other outdoors kit as well there, come to think of it. I believe there is a very great deal of product user knowledge here that could be tapped.

Perhaps though, the 'money off a purchase deal' is the wrong approach to make here, as such maybe. Would not a 'submit a review to win outdoors kit prizes' policy be a much better system to operate here perhaps?Like a competition to win kit in exchange for writing the best used product user reviews submitted. That then comes back though to what I said before, about establishing exactly what type of a site it is that people are here being so invited to contribute reviews to anyway, in the first place. Is this just purely a commercial money making site we are talking of here, or a dedicated outdoors reviews site, with a real love of the great outdoors behind it then? I am sure that I'm not the only one that would like to know the answers to these important questions here highlighted.

Thanks to Trevor for the prompt - here goes with some more detail. With the benefit of hindsight I'm not sure it was a good move to post or that I made myself clear.

Without any doubt or apology we hope to make money from this venture but in order to do this we have to add some value. Initially this will be by finding the cheapest price for the preferred boot. (we currently have 95 in the database)

Over time we will be able to build up reader reviews (our plan is along the lines mentoned in Trevor's last post with entry in to a prize draw for every pubished review) and to quickly extend to other areas. This will make the value add more qualitative which is what we are really aiming for.

We chose boots and outdoor equipment generally because this is what we do for fun. We all live in Scotland, I have completed my ML training and walk / climb all year round. I am a kit junky with a growing love of all things titanium and lightweight except when it comes to rucksacks where I've just acquired a fablous (but relatively heavyweight) podsac - awesome!

This will be my last post on the subject because I'm probably over the non commercial line now but please feel free to contact me privately if you'd like more information. We'll be launching the initial site this weekend.

Best regards. Mark.

If it develops into a dedicated independent online outdoors kit review resource site, run by outdoors loving souls, then I wish you the very best of future luck with the venture.

That was a success then!

The proof of the pudding lies not with merely me, Gwen!I am merely speaking as an interested observer right now myself. I have no doubt that once the new proposed outdoors review place gets up and is standing proud, then the going will be very good for it!The internet is made for stuff like this after all.

Stuff like this is all about the 'Long Tail' economy of the internet's business future you see!
