I didnt realise it would get such good reports.  I am taking it out for its first fray tonight in keswick.  Kinda hope it gets wind/wet so i can try it out (Actually thats a lie).

That's cos its minimalist gear, which I think most of us like. If Montane just added a few extra features, like pit zips, big pockets and reinforced patches... we'd hate it!

Also, being fit, healthy and athletic types like us the Montane tops fit us so well. That and the performance is why we like them.

BTW - I've got a Paramo windshirt not a Montane, guess that makes me a bit short for my size. Made a mistake when it came to handing over my hard earned didn't have confidence in a crisp packet.  Of course it means I now get to remedy it and get the pleasure of buying a new piece of kit. So all well that ends well.

Yes, they're good. About as waterproof as a sponge on their own but good under a non-waterproof jacket for keeping the damp off yr vest and as a warming layer. Windproof, yes indeed, and warm too for slipping on over a mid-layer for the drive home. Folds up to tennis ball size. If there's no space for one of these, there's no space at all.
"Also, being fit, healthy and athletic types like us"... speak fa yaself Paul!

Used it for the first time on a windy ride last night.  On the top when the wind was buffeting it was perfect and also didnt boil in the bag when we ended up in sheltered areas which were much hotter.  Fit is fantastic and it weighed nothing.

Only downside was that it does feel extremely fragile so when i was carrying my bike for 30mins on my back i was worried about pedals ripping it.

Pertex isn't indestructable, but it's tougher than it looks or feels.  If you do rip it, either just darn it back or patch with an offcut, but mine's still intact after several years regular use.

I've had the Rab version, Quantum, for over 18 months and been very impressed.  It's as light and compact as the Montane version, but as velcroed pocket on the inside in which folds in to.  More useful I think than net sack that the Montane comes with, as you're likely to lose it somewhere along the line.

Do Rab still make that Quantum windshirt?  ptc* has it down as being discontinued.

Patched kit looks way cooler anyway

Seems strange it's discontinue as it's a super bit of kit, pity the link above's only available in small.
