 Just read this article about a DAB radio (http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/5392, and even tho solar powered, I wondered if any of you people had any knowledge or lightweight radios. I did specify DAB, as, I believe, you get the best reception. Not sure on that tho. Any links, and esp weights greatly appreciated. G

 How heavy... 672g? A long, long time ago I picked up a Casio FM Card radio in a junk shop for a couple of quid and it tips the scales at only 20g... a weight saving of 622g over the DAB. There's no danger of keeping all the other campers awake, since you have to use an earplug to listen to it. I never use it these days, but it always located a station capable of delivering the next day's weather forecast.

 I don't have the weight at hand, but have used the Sony XDR-M1, but it's not much use - battery drain is very high with DAB. Also the coverage is not that good yet, rather like mobile telephone signals, the high population density areas are the better served. Some the the newer MP3 player/DAB radio options may be a better bet.

 Mmmm - I got my girlfriend one of the Pocket Dabs as a present; she thinks it is superb. You do not mention what you want it for? If backpacking analogue will be better perhaps (?); greater coverage.....my DAB picked up sweet FA (not a music channel  ) in Wester Ross.... I use an i-river T10 radio/mp3 if and when I take something....45 hour battery life; it is OK.

 dab radio and mp3 player in one i have this and its great.if i cant get a signal i can listen to music or an audio book. it says 240 grams,i think thats with the batteries in.

dab radio this lot have info and also if you're likely to get a signal. i bought a sony personal dab radio some time ago. i wasn't impressed but that just may be me being extra picky, which at the price i think i'm entitled to be. curiously about reception though, in my flat all i can get on fm is capital but a dab radio works just dandy. i don't understand it either.

Sony do some nice wee world band radios such as this. The short wave bands give you hours of happy fun at night searching for Radio Moscow or the BBC World Service wherever you are in the world, and LW and MW increase your chances of getting a listenable station in the hills. Roberts also do some nice LW/MW/FM pocket radios like this. DAB coverage is very patchy in the hills - best keep DAB radios for urban areas, (and mains power).

 The BBC have limited their use of Short Wave for World Service radio over the past couple of years. I have a nice Sangeans jobby which is hardly worth taking these days.

 I've got a Creative 1gb MP3 with an FM radio, 1AAA battery, the whole lot with headphones comes to 50g. Paddy still holds the record with 20g but I can get a weather forecast and listen to the news in the UK and overseas or listen to the (dated) music i have on there. I bought it 3-4 years ago in duty free somewhere. Works for me.

dab personal radio just weighed mine with earphones and batteries and my scales say 75 grammes.
