are the ion mask hi-tecs out or not?

I read with great interest for the first time last week about the new ion mask technology (including a thread from last December on here). It really sounds like it could be a big breakthrough.

The hi-tec site makes a big noise about this new technology but annoyingly I can't tell from it whether the new boots are actually now available or not.

Anyone heard any more about this or the technology in general?

Hi Ben

I have my first delivery of the new Hi-tec ion mask boots due in the shop next month.  There will be a lightweight leather boot for both men and women and it is designed pretty much like their standard v-lite leather boot.  I was disappointed that they have not made a fabric boot with ion mask but am told to expect them next year.  The demonstration given by the Hi-tec rep was very impressive and it will be very interesting to discover if this new technology performs as well as it is claimed actually out on the hill.

Thanks Johnny,

The videos on the hi-tec site look impressive as well but the whole thing certainly raises a lot of questions.

As you say, why start with leather boots? Or for that matter why with footwear at all if as claimed "the processs can make any material waterproof"?

Agree fully with you Ben. I got the feeling Hi-tec were very much dipping their toe in the ocean with this one .................................

It was hinted that clothing would be their next venture probably towards the end of next year but aimed to begin with at the golf market and if that proved a success then clothing for the outdoors would follow.  Must admit to being rather sceptical about it all and at the end of the day will the consumer be ready to take yet another leap of faith in the direction of a claimed fully waterproof and fully breathable clothing range?  Being a huge Paramo fan it is something I am keeping a close eye on.

I expect the videos on Hi-tec's website are the same as what their rep presented to me during his last visit, they did make impressive viewing, but maybe too good to be true??  Guess time will tell.
