Hi All

Off to New York early next year and before i forget i'd like to get some tip top OM advice for shiny gear shops to visit.

Anyone on here been? And what did you find were bargains?

 Cheers

Do they sell Buffs?

EMS up by Columbus circle..and a  couple of others, including kaufmanns army surplus at Washington.  There's a  couple of climbing walls as well, they might have shops attached, if that spins your wheel[s]

it's been a couple of years, but i wasn't overly impressed...fine for fondling stuff [ooer] but you might also want to consider buying online & getting stuff delivered to your hotel/apartment. REI, MEC etc.

I've often wondered if Ambleside has more outdoor stores than New York!

Cilogear make their rucksacks in NY. Well worth buying one if you are nearby.

Most of the bigger stores there do have good sports departments including a whole range of outdoors gear. When there why not just simply ask at your hotel desk, for information on the nearest best outdoors kit selling places, and you should find them most happy to help.

Could you possibly buy online and get it delivered to your hotel? I don't know if thats an optionfor you.

I worked in New York City for a couple of years in the early nineties and I'd have said that there were definitely more outdoor shops in Ambleside!

I'd recomment Tent&Trails ( website) and the Eastern Mountains Sports chain ( website ) and I noticed on a more recent visit that a TNF shop had opened in SoHo. Apart from that I can only suggest a search on Yellow Pages

This shows a sad tale of another famous New York sportshop, recently closed down because they couldnt afford a hike in the rent.
