Hi, I'm thinking of carrying my airic sleep mat in my rucksack rolled up loosly so that I can put my other kit inside it. The airic would essentially form a barrel shape which would kind of reinforce the walls of my rucksac (Omm Villain 45). I'm sure other people do this. Packing this way saves quite a bit of space. The only issue is that if/when it rains, the sleep mat may get wet. All my other kit will be in drybags and I don't use a rucksac cover. How big a deal is a wet sleepmat? I don't think the airic would actually hold much water on the exterier. Maybe only oneside of the airic would get wet so I would use the dry side to sleep on. Maybe it would dryout quickly once in my tent (tarptent - contrail). Maybe my sleeping bag with it's water resistent material would mean that it's ok to sleep on a slightly wet sleep mat. Any help appreciated. Cheers The sleepmat may only get wet on one side

I guess it depends on how water-repellent your sleeping bag outer material is. It's likely to be DWR at best, other wise breathability is likely to be decreased. Personally, I would avoid sleeping on a wet mattress. There is quite enough condensation around in a tent on a damp night without adding to it. I woudn't count on it drying out by being placed in your tent. Personally, I keep my mat in a drybag (Exped 7 so comes with its own drybag/inflator) precisely to avoid sleeping on a wet surface. If I were you, I'd get a lightweight drybag (c20g) and bung the mat in there.

I do have a drybag for the sleepmat and have used it plenty of times. I have very little space in my rucksac and so I'm looking into packing slightly differently to make room. The sleepmat seems to take up a lot more room when rolled up tight in a drybag; this is the only reason I want to pack my sleep mat as described above. Thanks

i like to keep my mat rolled up in its bag and then a dry bag with sleeping bag and clothes but if you want tp keep it unrolled then i think mike has the right idea.you dont want a wet mat.

Of course, if your sleeping mat is wet, and you can't dry it adequately, you can always put it under the groundsheet. Makes aligning your sleeping position a bit harder, but your bag stays dry. Not such a great idea with a bivi bag...

With a bit of tactical folding you should be able to fit a 3/4 length mat in the bladder pocket (fold it in thirds lengthways, then thirds widthways), which will still give support to the pack, and put the mat away from the majority of the rain.

Wee Airic fits in the hydration sleeve on both my new OMM Villain and my old sack a Berghaus Arete 45. I roll the air out then close the valve and unroll the mat. I fold in half then into thirds. I've had it wet in the Berghaus but not the Villain yet, only a third got wet and it dries out quickly. BTW the hydration bladder still fits in there aswell. Im thinking about getting the duomat thingy for my wee OMM sack to give me a better seat at lunch time and am curious to see if it will also go in the Villain with Airic.

multimat blow-up or big agness clear blow-up mats, not sure - any additional opinions before I purchase ? What are you going to use it for ? the Clear Agnes won't be much use once it gets cold without som eextra insulation, but it looks a lot comfier.

it was recommended to me to use a foam mat on top of blow-up bed sorry just not sure which would be the better blow-up bed option - bit concerned that the multmat might be too 'slippy and slidy'

My Multimat isn't particularly slippy, and has been warm enough so far. I'd like the Clear Agnes for when it's warmer though.
