Down sleeping bag liner
Does a down bag need a liner?

Tyvek may be the answer.  Have a look here for some comment...http://fenlander.wordpress.com/2008/06/17/a-suit-too-far/

I wondered if a liner would become a pain as you toss and turn in your sleep and it sounds as though it might. The Tyvek suit or the Patra silk long johns sound a good idea. Now that I have paired down my wild camping kit weight wise, the idea of silk pj's in my Akto sound rather inviting.

Down boy!

I made a bivvy bag from a Tyvek work suit. I used an XXL suit.  Chopped off the arms first. Cut the legs open on the inside leg and joined them together to create the 'bag'. I used a piece of the arm material to create a foot plug for the bag. As it was a test bag, i just used duct tape to join everything together. It worked fine as a water-resistant bivvy bag for under a tarp.

Cotton or poly cotton liners are still a good idea here too though really I think, to protect the bag inner from wear and tear from clothing/trouser zips contact within, or also just for keeping the actual bag inner generally a lot cleaner too in extended long trips use outdoors.I cannot see a light pertex fabric liner being that much of a problem used in a down bag either really. It will not speed up transportation of body moisture to the inner of the down bag that much, as the bag inners naturally seem to cope well enough with moisture coming straight off of a human body at night otherwise don't they! It might well even make one feel a degree or two warmer in the bag, and weigh very little for the extra warmth to weight considerations here too.

Trevor, I've got a Pertex liner I use for if I anticipate being really filthy for some reason.  It's significantly bulkier than my fine silk one (both are Rab), at least twice the size packed.  There's roughly zip effect on temperature AFAICT.

As for the tangling thing... I used to hate YHA sheeties because of that and anticipated a similar problem with a bag liner, but for some reason it just doesn't happen to me, even though I thrash around enough in the night to turn my sleeping bag completely upside down moderately often.  <shrug>

Pete.
