Eye wear whore 

 Having just gone through the process of shopping around for a set of prescription sunglasses for the second time in the last 4 years, I have just ordered a set of Prescription Oakley Monster Dogs for general use including snowboarding and hill walking.

I went for them as I have had a pair of non-prescription monster dogs for a few years and they have been great, top frame quality, lens quality and comfort. I wore them when distance vision wasn't an issue, ie just hanging about, down the pub beer garden, and on the hill too before I got my Rudy Projects.

Also when you compare them to "normal" prescription sunglasses they aren't that expensive really.  For no-name sunglasses (which seemed very flimsy) you are looking at £120 plus from vision express. I payed £190 for the Oakleys.

 I have also got a set of Rudy Project Ekynox I have used for Mountain biking and Hiking and to be honest the lenses in these are nowhere near as good, seemed to be very soft in comparison to the Oakley lenses and the Prescription Clip-In has a tendency to steam up. being able to change lenses from clear to orange to grey to dark grey has been very handy for biking however. I think I payed £80 for the clip in, £70 for the frames and 1 set of lenses.  Extra lenses seem to go for £15-25 quid.

 Basically, the upshot is if your eyes are a bit dodgy, then you are going to be out of pocket whichever way you work it, and oakleys seem to be no more expensive than prescription designer frames and lenses and offer a hell of a lot more for your money in terms of back up, design and lens quality.
