Still a happy Spacepacker user... Roos has never been that keen, it must be said, and we've just ordered up the Hubba Hubba HP that was for sale here as a slightly wider replacement with an inner that doesn't get Up Close And Personal in the night.
Was humming and harring over a Scarp 2 but the porches look too thin for my liking.
I bought a Saunders Backpacker II in 1978 out of money diligently saved form my student grant. It has been round Scotland, Scandinavia, across France, round Corsica, up the Himalayas, Andes (Chile, Argentina, Ecuador), Rockies, Sierras. Alaska..... The inner travelled round India with me as a mosquito net for 7 months in 1984. I used it to save money at scientific conferences. And my daughter and I are still using it.
Bob Saunders died just under a month ago, so I would guess it's a sign of end of trading. If you want one of his tents and find one, don't delay. A very cursory google showed a Spacepacker mk 1 at Spa Cycles, but that's about it.
I think the main business was wrapped up a couple of years ago but RS would still take on repairs etc. There was some talk of his daughters taking the business on, but I think it's quite likely the end of the road.
Alpenstock list Saunders, they might still have some stock.
