Does anyone know how a size 48 in the above would compare to a size 48 in the Scarpa Manta M4 - which I already have and which is too small, despite having worn size 48 for the last 30 years. I know that La Sportiva go up to size 49 and 50, if necessary. Also, I'm having difficulty locating any retailers who stock big size boots to try on for size - I am East Midlands but would travel if anyone can recommend a shop which catered successfully for your big feet!
I am going to sell my Scarpas, after two weeks in the Alps (2007 and 2008, they were new in 2007) as I have lost too many toe nails to face wearing them again. Would anyone be interested in buying them for £60? (+p&p)
Size 47 Mantas (not the new GSB ones which I have not tried yet, I am referring to the previous edition) are too small for me but Size 47 Nepal Extremes are a good fit and my usual boots in certain winter conditions. On the off chance that you don't get direct experience from a 48 Nepal wearing, Scarpa experienced guy on this forum you may have to just extrapolate from my experience. Needlesports in Keswick are a great retailer and may get things in to try if you ask.
La Sportiva tend to be a slightly bigger fit than other makes. They are my favorite as I am a weird in between size and they give me a bit more room with out feeling like boats.
I am in Northampton, The Outdoor Shop nearby stocks them at £199 up to size 48 and give very good fitting advice.
A little bit longer so you have room to move your toes, without being a complete size bigger.
I have wide-ish feet at the front (apparently) and they don't pinch or feel tight. Not sure if that makes them wider than normal or not. Never really had a problem with width on the majority of other footwear I have tried on.
I bought the Nepals first and then got Trango's after a pair of Salomons of exactly the same size nearly crippled my toes. (Photo's in my gallery for the morbid.)
