has anyone used a caldera cone in a tent? I'm not asking people to say it's safe to do in our sue happy culture! I'm figuring flare ups might be an issue. I've only just got a meths stove but always used my gas stove even in pretty small tents. As an aside, which are the best matches to use?
I use my CC in my Hex 3, but there is tons of headroom. I haven't tried it in my smaller tents, but it should be ok, as long as you keep an eye on it. I can't say i've ever had a flare up with the CC. I just use a cheap lighter.
Used it for two years now regularly in TN: laser large 1; laser and laser comp. NO flare-ups. Mind you make sure the dogs not in at the same time! Especially the laser!
I've used mine in our Laser lots of times. I do draw and peg back the groundsheet (200mm at the centre) for cooking. I think the caldera is so enclosed that it is a lot safer than many other meths stoves.
OT, but I stupidly lit mine once on snow resting on spare tent pegs laid level - then watched it descend slowly into the snow like a nuclear reactor meltdown ... a thin piece of foil works better
There are two different makes of Caldera Cone in the US aren't there. Which one is the best though, or is there little effective difference betweeen the quality of construction of the two main manufacturers?
I'm not sure: I get the impression that Trail Designs seem to have licenced the design to Titanium Goat to make the Ti versions, using Titanium Goat's experience in working with Ti.
But whatever the case is, AGG are certainly just an outlet for the Caldera.
I forgot about Titanium Goat in all this, I don't know who makes the Ti-Tri, but it sounds like Trail Designs probably does from the note on their website about making custom Ti cones.
