Hi,

Does anyone have or had experiences or views on the above trousers please? I know they may be for different things, but with summer (LOL!) on the way in Scotland, im just wondering which to buy.

Also looking at size guides an XL says 36inch waist and xxl a 40..im a 38 so not sure which to go for. I tried Rab overtrousers in XXL and they fitted with waist room but where really long. I have to get them online as no one around sells them...

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers M

Its meant to be Rab Alpine Trek Pants or Vapour Rise

Well the choice - for summer walking! - is easy. VRs are sort of late autumn weight trousers (winter for some no doubt) in warmth terms. Wind/water resistant outer with a ~microfleece lining. Nice but not summer.

So it'd have to be the Alpine treks or maybe the treklites if you don't want the reinforcements. I don't know about sizing - probably a good idea to try e-mailing a retailer to ask.

I wouldnt use the VRs in summer unless you want to lose weight rapidly via your pores......

they are excellent 3 season trews and I wear them as late into spring as i can because they do not give me any chaffing in awkward places......

The VR pants have a sort of fleecy lining making them very warm. I wouldn't wear mine if I expected temperatures above 5c, they're just too warm for me. I agree with Dave, they're excellent trousers, but for cold conditions only.

cool thanks, I live in scotland and trying to do wilderness walking (Corrour to Fort William next week) so it will be windy...hence im thinking the VR's would be good or I dunno if to wait on them 'coming down in price' with summer due...

I have the Rab Treklite pants, they are a lighter, stretchy  fabric similar to my  Mountain Equipment combin pants made from schoeller fabric ,but around half the price.......

I am always a Medium and can usually order online with no worries about fit but the Treklites are a little longer than i expected.

They are at least 3 season pants and i'd happily use them in a Scottish winter as we often cover up with waterproofs if the weather is crap and i sweat a lot at the best of times.

I have a Rab VR jacket and it is toasty, i fear the trousers would be too warm for anything other than cold winter conditions such as we have today!

Cool thanks for your knowledge, I got the XL VR Pants today, however they are a bit tight. Therefore a 38 inch waist I think would need the XXL and if I loose weight then a belt and the electic non streched would do I hope. Pity I cant find them in a shop local though...

Im liking the look of the trek pants though, and if need be like you do pop on the waterproofs...

Bought the generator vest, for some heat therefore hopefully I should be ok!!

Thanks again
