Are these really worth the money ? I've always just used a pair of thin socks followed by a pair of thick ones and never had a problem I'm just being curious, because I thought I would buy some and see what they are like, but at £10-£12 each ... wow !

£10 - £12 per pair I hope Decent quality walking socks of the likes of Bridgedale/Smartwool etc are definately worth it (IMO), You could try going for a walk wearing your usual thin sock/thick sock combo on one foot and an expensive walking sock on the other to get a comparison.

if it works for you why change. any sock that fits you properly is good. it's a shame that people do not buy the correct socks but buy brands when they wouldn't dream of buying footwear that didn't fit.

.JPG) I've started using recently these and found them really comfortable. The only 'walking' socks I've had which I feel have been worth the high price have been smartwools - the rest have disappointed. Have yet to try Teko or the Alpkit ones

I tend to use bridgedales as i think the merino mixes handle moisture very well and they are comfy. Tend to agree with mole ref smartwool, the ones i had the elastic seems to stretch around the calf area very quickly and they just end up falling down. Oh and my calves are like twiglets.

Hi I tried to get the 3 pairs of Alpkit socks .. out of stock Last weekend, I tried to buy my son a Wee Airic .. out of stock Slim Airic is also out of stock, as is the Fat Airic There's not much point if having good products when they are not in stock

I seem to remember that they said on a thread that they finance new stock and development from overdrafts. I think there time has come and gone, a real missed oppurtunity. When you look at HiGEAR as an example their Airics are half the price and just as good, also a shade lighter. I was looking the other day and they had an inflatable lilo style mat, that was very comfy, seem good quility, but was dirt cheap. Go back 3 years how many people made thermarests?, i recollect 2 now everyone makes them and £7 can get you a nice one. Alpkit have the brand, as if we are all honest what would you rather have a Higear Sleeping Bag or an Alpkit? While i imagine they will still produce good gear personally my eyes have opened to chosing gear that works, who cares about the brand, realised i was a bit of a snob.
