Fenwick,

Trousers are an item of clothing worn on the lower part of the body from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately.

TTG, I have the Berghaus Paclite Trousers which I use in the summer, but if I were to replace them now it would be with something like the Regatta waterproof trousers. As for most of the time they are in my pack and are only worn if I am getting cold as well as wet.

I think so. In my size they weigh 157g pack down small and unlike the cheaper ones have a short ankle zip which helps get them on and off.

When I say short I mean calf length (or thereabouts).

Lowe alpine rush pants, about £35-£40 quid if you shop around. They pack into their own pocket and weigh nowt. Great bit of kit and they are waterproof and tougher than they look.

I have the older Marmot Precip overtrousers without sidezips, which are fine and good value. Recommended. Precip breathes easily enough for trousers, not really enough for me in a jacket though.

Am now using Berghaus Paclites which are the Daddies - more for the long zips which are magic for putting them on and for venting. Not cheap tho ...

No problems with durability on either. Precips have traversed the Pyrenees twice and done some LDPs here, with more use than one might expect - do I attract rain ?

These are the overtrousers that served me so well.
