hi everyone, I'm going on a several-month trip to China and SE Asia, mix of city-touring and light hiking. I'm looking for a lightweight, breathable crossover shoe.

People suggested a trail runner, so I got a pair of Salomon XA Pro 3Ds. However the sole presses up uncomfortably against the front inside of my feet, and gives me sore feet very quickly when running on hard surfaces.
Also when wearing them my feet roll inwards slightly, suggesting the support isn't that good.

Would people suggest sticking with trail runners, or looking isntead at a cross-trainer/multisport or crossover shoe, like the Merrell intercept?
I thought about light hikers, but I don't need the rigidity on hard roads and I don't want to wear down the sole too quickly.

I've been told that most trail runners will have the problem as the salomons, in not giving enough support for a slight over-pronator.

thanks, hope someone can help

hi there, might i suggest that you investigate insoles for your Xa pros.  Having had about ten pairs of these shoes I feel that they are perfectly suited to your needs. However it is worth mentioning that support for the foot is best achieved through the use of in soles to interface the foot and shoe.  if you are spending much time travelling they will help massivley to accomadate surafce irregularity and reduce shock.  If this doesnt work the Merrell shoes offer an alternative as you know so maybe try them

Hi John,

I have always found the North Face Hedgehog XCR Gore tex very good and I use them for all sorts of activities.  I second Chris's reply on footbeds, I use Sole heat moldable ones and they are magic.

Cheers,

Stephen
