Jst got a pair of these and they have a sqeak on the right boot at teh front, no doubt due to the different materials in the sole. I am hoping that they wil be replaced by the shop as they are 1 day old. If not where do I get them sent to for Solomon to replace? Oh, they are really comfy, I have the elios and they have lasted 3 years of abuse but like others I have a weak ankle from basketball as a kid and wanted more support and they support really well - a lot better than my winter miendl borneos as they go higher up the ankle. Mine are in black which I think are nicer in the long run - I think the reds will go a bit tatty over a few years. cheers

Just thought i'd update this as seen as i posted when i first got the boots. They have since gone back and I got a refund from the shop, a hole developed between the upper and the sole unit that was letting water in....i noticed while we were doing the coast 2 coast so got in touch with the shop as soon as i got back. They offered me a refund or replacement so decided to take the refund, mainly because of the hole but also because i noticed how little grip they actually had during the wetter days of our coast 2 coast, they were fine in the snow when i got them, fine in the dry, but the slightest hint of mud or wet grass and i may as well have been wearing skis. a few people we bumped into along the way also had the cosmics and quests and all said exactly the same thing - fantastic, light, comfy, waterproof boots but terrible grip in the wet.

Gonna be getting the quests for xmas, hope they will help to get me to the top of Kilimanjaro. Lots of mixedreviews for them, but the good outways the bad

.JPG) I think the grip on the sole improves as they wear a little, in the same way that tyres have a releasing agent added to the mould, I think once this outer skin wears off the rubber is grippier .

I think the grip on the sole improves as they wear a little, in the same way that tyres have a releasing agent added to the mould, I think once this outer skin wears off the rubber is grippier . The same is true of my Fastpackers. Initially the rubber feels slippery, but after a bit of wear they are superbly grippy. The Fastpackers are the best boots I've ever worn.
I also have a pair of Quests which I'm breaking in at the moment. Actually they don't need much breaking in but they do loosen up after a while. Very comfortable so far.

I really the Fastpackers - but they are sketchy (like most things) on wet rock - as I found to my cost when jogging down from Styhead a couple of weeks ago

Better than Inov-8 Roclites, though (by a country mile) That'll be a matter of opinion then.... mine differs

i've had the quest 4d for about 6months now. been out in the wet a few times and i think they are letting in water but can't see any holes
they may just be a bad pair. they takes days and days for the suede to dry out fully in doors and they feel very damp inside when taken off
might return them to cotswolds. would they just go through manufacturers return procedure?

I've been thinking about buying a pair of these as they look so good and Salomon shoes fit my feet well. I was put off by a number of reviews that say that they aren't very waterproof, which in my opinion isn't great for a pair of boots costing around £150! However, fabric boots often aren't as good at keeping the water out as a leather pair.
You could try placing them in a bowl of water and leaving them for a while - if they're not waterproof they'll begin to fill up.
