This is a 3-season synthetic bag with a comfort rating variously reported between -5 and -7. It's a full-spec mummy, with zips. Costs £100.

How come it weighs so little?! At 1330 grams it's not much lighter than my old MHW Piute which was down-filled and had a similar temperature rating.

Are they lying about the weight, lying about the temperature, or both? Or is it actual genuine witchcraft?

Having looked at their website its really quite funny this

Phute: Temperature rating -7, EN Comfort -4.

Lamina 0 (~1.7 kg): Temperature rating -18, EN Comfort -5.

What I find somewhat amusing is that they've cheerfully put the temperature ratings and the EN results on the same page (here).

Actually the ratings for the ultralamina 15 (1.3kg) seem to be -9 /-1 respectively - so yes not so much worse than the Phute. But then the Phute is given as using 600fp goose down (I suppose on the American measurement system)  which probably isn't massively above a top quality synthetic. Rather less flattering if you choose to compare to something like a hispar 800

The piute is 600 EU, I used to own one and it was very nice, though I think they've now been changed slightly. But this is what confused me, from experience i know the piute performs relatively well for it's size/weight, and can't see how the lamina could be so closely comparable without somebody telling porkies about something! Either way I won't be getting one, it's an Alpkit bag for me.

The Lamina is ideal for multi-day trips with a bivy bag where down would start to get damp.

If you are using a tent then a down bag is always the best option weight wise.

Well the EN ratings above are pretty objective so their tempertaure ratings on the synthetic things seem to be somewhat optimistic What is funny of course is that they give a truly impressive amount of info which clearly demonstrates it!

Actually they give fill weights too - Piute = 709g, Ultralamina 15 = 940g. So the synth insulation is running on something like 400fp down. Plausible enough I suppose. The ultralamina seems to have lighter face fabrics etc which keep the net difference down to 0.1kg.

ja, the best synthetics these days kind of make down obsolete unless you're buying 750 fill and above (800, 900, etc). I figure anyway. And are cheaper. Still can't beat a really high down fill though.
