I've seen a relatively good price (35 Euros) on an Edelrid Medius harness. I was thinking of getting it for occasional use as my other (fully adjustable Beal Aero Classic) is versatile enough to fit my wife if need be.
I know a harness needs to be sat in to be tested but in this case it would be for me as a second harness to go out with friends who don't own their own kit (or didn't bring it with them to the South of France). Just wondering if anyone here has used one and if so, how did it fare?
I used one a month or two ago John; it was fine. Comfy enough, easy enough to don, light.
I would not want to take a screamer in one (nor would I in any harness ) or dangle for a long time but that does not sound a likely scenario for your intended use?
Thanks Ed, No; hopefully not. Really just as a harness to have in stock if I want to go easy sport climbing or to a wall with a friend. It would be for me (as the other harness I own is very adjustable) but I'd be hoping not to take any big falls in it (or anything else!)
How were the racking options? A quick look revealed a mix of stiffened and non-stiffened gear loops. Given the above uses it would only really need to be a big set of quickdraws and some backup options.
It would easily take a fixed anchor rack - and pretty easily a nut/QD combo; not sure you could rack up a complete set of Freinds+ and have easy access though - depends how you rack I guess?
I never liked the 'moulded' gear loops myself - but that is sheer personal predjudice!
The harness was being sold at my local climbing wall and they let me try it on for a route. All I can say is that it didn't work for me. I think the rise (if that's the right term) was too large for the size of the waist belt and it rode up to just under my ribs when under tension. Not good; even for occasional use.
Oh well. Just glad I tried it before bargain hunting instinct got the better of me!
Good question, Kate. I fear it's going to be tricky to be as active as I've been here for the last four years. But I won't have to walk past this place on my way home...
