i am looking for a 2-3 man mountain tent that is a geodesic design (dont know too much about mountain tents but it must be able to withstand strong winds and snow). it should pitch outer first and have a removeable inner, with a large enough vestibule for 2 large rucksacks and a useable space for cooking in.

if possible below 4KG but not overly fussed

havent got too much money to play with, my price range is £250

The one I can think of that comes closest to ticking the boxes you've stated would be the Force10 Vortex, either the 200 or 300 model - that really depends if you want to get 3 in it or just fancied plenty of space for 2.

A bit of googling suggests the 200 at least should be available very close to your price range.

Second vote for the Vortex based on what you've said so far.

Where are you going and what will you be doing?

hmm maybe im being a bit optomistic about the spcifications, that spindrift does look like a nice tent but its way too heavy

Another thought, check the classifieds on here. There's a dude selling a Crux Bomb for £280. I don't reckon it would sleep 3, but there's plenty of vestibule space for 2 people's cooking and gear. Safer bet than fleabay, etc.

Have a look at the jamet aneto 4000. It comes fairly close to filling all the criteria you mentioned.

the force ten vortex looks like one solid very good tent but is a good bit out of the price range, does anyone know of somwhere where it is around 250

the vango spirit 300+ ultralight tent looks pretty good and is only 220 at outdoor megastore, i know its not geodesic but it has tonnes of porch space and only weighs 3.25 kg. has anyone got any experience of this and is it a strong reliable tent, i appreciate it wont be anywhere near as strong as the vortex but is it able to cope with strong winds
