Are there any ladies out there like me who have big feet but cant find ladies boots in big sizes. What are you wearing and where are you getting them from. My difficulty is that i generally need a size 8 1/2 or 9 but the boots are always too wide (because im having to try mens boots on). Im now after some synthetic boots with fairly stiff sole for winter and cant find any to fit. The only pair that ive bought recently are some aku boots but they are not substantial enough for winter use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jacqui ps- i dont want to be putting any type of insert into the boot

I'll ask so the more knowledgeable people don't have to ask later.....Why the objection to inserts?

.JPG) The only pair that ive bought recently are some aku boots but they are not substantial enough for winter use. My partner is in the same situation. She wears mens size 8s for walking, I was gonna suggest Aku. I have the Lhotse - fairly stiff soled, but it might be a little wide. Unless you are climbing?, I don't see what the problem is with winter use - they do various models. Judy Armstrong used Aku Icaros for her alpine challenge!

My wife has the same problem and now has a pair of Hanwag boots (sorry, I don't know which ones) - I'm told they use a particularly narrow last. Another option is to look at the boots from Altberg, as they make several width fittings. They tend to be pretty slim fitting anyway, so a pair of their Narrow or Extra Narrow boots may suit. Finding them to try on may be difficult, however...

Jacqui try Aku Edge or Spider both are full on winter boots, Edge will take a C2 crampon and both boots are narrow fitting

Jacqui, I'm th northern rep for Aku. What type of winter use do you mean? are you wanting a B1/B2 or just a pair of boots with abit more protection? and where do you live?

I'd find these a bit too lightweight and flexible for winter use - particularly as the OP was looking for a stiffer sole. Also, apart from being discontinued, the Icaros are quite wide fitting, as rob s. could probably verify. Rob, what's the nearest equivalent to the Icaro in Aku's current range please?

Interesting, Graeme, never tried Hanwag myself but always thought they followed the Meindl / Lowa norm of width (i.e. wide!) but then again, narrow / wide is far too simplified description of foot shape to be much help. You just have to try on as many options as you can find. Personally, I'd look hard at La Sportiva. They certainly have boots in the style you describe with an excellent reputation. I'd also look at Kayland. I'm not so sure of the fit, but 'by eye' they seem lean to me. Millet, the French mountain brand (not to be confused with Millets) also do good boots that suit the French market and their narrower average foot shape. You've already had suggestions of Aku. So no need to reiterate... but I agree that they offer some good choices.

Glyn, the nearest we currently do to the Icaro is the Suiterra Open but it's still quite a different Boot! Narrower but with a wider heal cup far better sole unit though!
|
 |
damn! narrower at the front and wider at the heal is the opposite of what I'm wanting.

Well my wife's pair is certainly narrow throughout, but it's quite possible they use different lasts for different boots.

Hi, Not sure if you've tried the Meindl Vakumm GTX range but I find them very comfortable. I have a wide foot but I get the impression that the foam layers adapt to your foot shape and I always find the boot tight when I first put it on. Other than that I've always found the Scarpa boots to have a narrower fit than other boots I've tried. Certainly I've not been able to buy a pair for this reason.
