There are more head torches on the market than dark and stormy nights I need a new one for night walks, pitching and striking camps. Light weight, no more than 100 grams. Any suggestions?

I have many head torches of different costs (cheap to extortionate) and the Alpkit gamma gets most use. Best all rounder and for £15.

Seconding the Alpkit Gamma - I've done a fair bit of research and it seems to be the best balance between weight, cost and quality. A shade over your target weight though at 118g. I plan on getting one as soon as they're back in stock.

I've been very impressed so far with my Tikka XP2. Very powerful, takes lithium batteries and comes in under 100g.

"I have many head torches of different costs (cheap to extortionate) and the Alpkit gamma gets most use. Best all rounder and for £15."... ditto! Me too!

Another "me too!" for the Alpkit one. Unless you have some particularly specialist activity in mind and feel justified in spending £££s for the very best it's very good and astonishingly good value. Pete.

im with the others the alpkit gamma is excellent for £15 and if you buy 5 or more (with mates maybe ) you get them for £11 each !!! bargain. theres a main beam a small 1 led blue , red and green light and a usefull light on the battery case at the back, usefull for walking down the road on a night

Jumping in on the thread a bit here but the red green blue lights are for what? I get that red helps night vision but what are the other 2 supposed to be for?

Mine hasn't got a blue light and neither does anyone else's that I know of. Green is for cool effects when taking your kids out at halloween. Would agree with the reccs so far - I use mine more than any of my other torches as it is a good balance of performance and practicality. Although I tak my e-lite instead when its a just in case measure, such as middle of summer.

 - White light for general illumination
- Red light preserves night vision
- Green light for map reading
- Blue light for fluid identification

I wanted the alpkit gamma for my camping trip last Easter, unfortunately they were out of stock. I ordered a Petzl Tikka plus brand new from an Ebay seller for £20.00 and was gutted when it was a Zipka Plus that arrived. Now I am really happy with it, it is the size of the head torch only with the head attachment stretching out from it. I'd recommend it to anyone.
