I was in Lakeland Plastics t'other day and discovered they sell a plastic insulated cafetiere mug.

An old film canister filled with proper coffee, a flask of boiling water and Bob's yer uncle - real coffee at three thousand feet on a snowy Sunday. Nice. It doesn't get much better.

If you want proper coffee the coffee bags from Tesco/Asda are the real thing, like overgrown tea bags. They come in 20's and are foil sealed for freshness.

Ah, less slimy coffee grinds in a poly bag or (my personal favourite) bottom of rucksack - thankee

But, then again I drive a car, use electricity, and have been known to snore.

I tend to buy the fairtrade stuff myself cos I'm sure all the evil multiglobalnationals bleed tiny kittens into their instant stuff.

Plus instant tastes like floor sweepings and burnt straw.

I had a lexan cafetiere once, bought from Cotswolds. All was well for a while, and it was very good for brewing coffee, until the plunger bit broke.

Last Christmas, my girlfriend got me another. But after just one week's use on holiday, that too broke the next time I used it.

Either I'm very unlucky or the ones Cotswold used to sell are crap! I haven't seen them on sale recently, so they probably don't stock them any more. It's a shame, because they're a good idea if they could be well made.

I just use the jug method for making coffee now and filter the grounds out through a tea strainer.

Only drink Fairtrade filtered coffee.

Or tea.

NEVER instant and NEVER NEVER Nescafe. (Evil I tell you, EEEEEEEEEEEVIL!)!)

Years ago I bought a filter thing for a filter coffee maker - it has very fine mesh, so you don't need those filter paper things.

It sits nicely in the top of a wide mug - weighs almost nothing. Lasted many years camping, now used constantly in office.
