okay I know, but i havnt lost my mind. There are times after kicking off the boots or this year the wellies that one reverts to normal attire.Hate the phrase dress socks but normally wear thinner socks in ordinary shoes/indoor use with quite a high wool content. In the good old days Lawries of London "Outfitters to Polar Expeditions" sold this type of sock BUT quite a bit thicker and harder wearing than the rubbish sold nowadays, you know the sort of thing 10 pairs for a fiver!!!Only last five minutes. Up to recently M + S did pretty good ones at a reasonable price but their current batch in common with most others Ive seen are pretty thin and rubbishy. No doubt Retailers these days work on the basis of "bullshit baffels brains" and rely either on very young customers who are unaware of what went before or older ones like me who hopefully are suffering from memory loss and so are unable to compare present  quality of their clothes with clothes of yesteryear. Be grateful to hear if anyone has found a good source for this type of sock. Cheers. Frank.

smartwool liner socks, or their classic rib socks

I have both and they are great - I use the classic rib as a walking sock in trail shoes as well.

Marks & Spencer do occasionally get merino dress socks in but it's intermittent.

Keep an eye out and grab a dozen pairs when they're in stock.  They work extremely well with proper leather shoes, especially in hot weather when cotton socks leave your feet wet and clammy.

Icebreaker do some Merino Everyday Socks that are really nice. A bit thicker and more luxurious feeling than some wool liners. Not sure about the five pairs of a tenner bit tho...
