I prefer to stink when in the hills or to take a swim when weather and conditions allow. I have a light pack towel but it gets used for mopping up condensation in my tent. As far as stinking in a queue is concerned well I am probably used to it so I'm not that bothered.

Seriously though if you're in a long trek you will end up stinking if there are no proper cleaning facilities. Afterall I do hope you are not using soap in a stream or lake to get clean. Wet wipes are good but really you have to live with it until you get to somewhere to get clean with proper soap and preferably hot or warm water. You have to accept the limits of what you can do about personal hygiene when away from facilities. That's what deodorant is for, mask it if you can. Also, that old joke about a bath once a year whether you need it or not was once not a joke but the reality. We've moved on a bit since then so people are more likely to notice that you stink, but way back in time we all stank but for some people who had that one bath a year.

What about j-cloths? Don't they make good teatowels, flannels and towels?

Hmm I'm using a 25*25 (metric) sized 'high-tec' towel of the firm Ruby-tec. Simpy rub your wet skin and wring out the water from your towel as long as you need to dry yourself. The towel dries not that quick but even wet you can still dry yourself with it.
