Hi there i recently purchased a pair of Mountain Equipment Guide gloves for around £40. I've become quite comfortable buying ME gear as it doesn't usually let me down. The Guide gloves i bought on their first use in light rain started leaking at the tip of the thumb in one glove (the other remained bone dry). Any body else had any similar experiences with these gloves? I'm just pondering weather or not to buy another pair (once i get my refund) or to go with another brand? Any suggestions? i hear Rab Baltoro Softshell are decent? I am going to be using them on an attempt on kilimanjaro summit and other future moutain efforts. I hear temperatures can be as low as -25 (we wont be staying up there long). Thanks in advance

Not that problem, but the fleecy inners are a bit loose round the little fingers and when my hands have that clamminess brought on by cold damp, they won't go in and just get caught up in the inner. I need to rootle out the receipt and take them back, or just send them back to ME if I can't find the receipt! But I'll check the waterproofness now you've mentioned it, thanks.

i have these gloves but could not wear them in rain as they are too warm.i keep mine for cold snowy weather and use shell mitts for rain. i always carry different gloves to suit the change in weather.

Mine havn't leaked but like Kate's pair the inners are all over the shop due to them not being sewn in and following your hand out when it's sweaty. This means you often end up with the outer being an inch longer on certain fingers. Very warm though, I've tended to use them as tent gloves.

I have this problem with my winter waterproof gloves. You take them off and the inner follows. I was wondering if a pair of silk liner gloves would cure that problem?

Yeah mate the very same! Cheers for all the Replies! I did find them to be very warm to be honest but the issue about the leak kinda put me off them.. still not sure weather or not to get another pair or go for a different brand reading the other problems people have experienced with the Glove. I will be purchasing a thiner glove for general use as well.

I would never buy a pair of gloves that have the liner partially sewn in. You always have problems when your hands become wet.

What do you wear Mike Fae? I'm looking for suggestions now i have to re buy my gloves Thanks

It depends, i have a few pairs. I like the Rab Baltoro gloves in cold weather, and a pair of Black Diamond powerstretch gloves with a leather palm for milder weather. If it rains heavily, i stick a waterproof mitt over the top. I use Extremities Tuff Bags mitts for walking, and a heavy duty pair of Outdoor Designs mitts if i'm scrambling. I carry a pair of Buffalo Mitts as back-up, or a pair of very warm Vapour Barrier mitts in extreme cold. I probably have at least another dozen pairs kicking about.

WOW! I'm impressed i think apart from the ME gloves i have a £2.99 pair of wafer thin Thinsulates .. plan to build up a collection eventually tho... was looking at the Rab Baltoro gloves tho and may pick up some power stretch gloves. Thanks for your advice

You won't go wrong with Baltoro's, though you'll need a waterproof mitt to wear over them in heavy, persistant rain. The Rab Baltoro's and the Extremities Tuff Bags are a killer combination. Add a pair of Powerstretch gloves and you're set for year round walking.

and may pick up some power stretch gloves. The ME powerstretch gloves are nice....

Cheers! (unless that was sarcastic lol ) but if not do you mean the ME Touch gloves? hehe

If it's cold enough for gloves I prefer GTX lined gloves with removable liners. And I carry a spare pair of liners with me to change out when the 1st pair gets too damp. If it's too warm for liners I just use the shell alone or liners alone. Carrying liners of different thicknesses allows for temp changes. Synthetic fleece gloves that can be used as spare liners are easy to find.

i use thin liner gloves. colder then powerstretch gloves. colder then a shell glove (mountain harwear pair i bought years agao). the multiple combinations available cover all temperatures with the advantage that the inner glove dries very quicky and with the thin liners you maintain dexerity and some warmth if you take the outer shell off. never buy warm gloves. you can only wear them when it's very cold. buy shells and layer beneath as appropriate.

Only Just noticed the Edit Mr Sworld thanks hehe. and thanks for the advice peeps im going to consider your advice and i probably will buy liners and Shell

Ski type gloves with a fully separate insulating lining are the best IME.
