yes i have heard this, but i was planning on replacing them with alloy poles instead - you can't find anything of a similar quality until you reach at least the £100 mark.

I've got the older version and reckon its a pretty good tent, well, glorified bivvi really. Took mine out in the Lakes last year, lots of rain but I stayed dry and slept like a baby. Vast ammounts of ale helped.

I haven't got you wrong. You have had poles break and reckon they are rubbish as a result. Seems perfectly fair to me. If mine broke I'd probably reckon they are rubbish too. If you are taller than 5ft 10 its probably too small as well. Its a very , very small tent, but good value in my opinion.

Never had any trouble with my poles over 3 years and numerous outings, just to balance the argument.....

 |
Where can you get replacement poles from?
|
 |
The poles on mine split but I had some spare sections from other tents and made a new one. If you were serious about getting decent pole you could buy an alloy replacement pole set from Millets or the like and make a new set. The Argos Hike Lite 1 is a better tent IMO for a little more money and a little extra weight. You can sit up in it, the midge netting is finer, you can cook in the porch with care and it comes with alloy poles. The only downside is the colour if you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb.

and if you ask me very very nicely, I might well be able to sell you a Hike Lite (Orange) that I bought on a whim in the sale last year. Never out of the wrapper...was going to go on ebay after easter... (But I agree with the comments above - I have another one I use)

is there any difference between the old and new model?

Hi peeps. I'm new here, but thought I'd chip in. I saw the new 'Solo' for £22 on Amazon, so clicked the button and bought it. I want something for hiking on the cheap (no B&B's) and I think it's low profile will be perfect for wild camping. Not really fussed about headroom or awning size - my idea is generally about moving on each day, not setting up camp. Though, having said that, a small tarp could have its uses here. I have some small titanium pegs at home and I'm going to have a good look at the tent to see if I can make it lighter still, but I don't want to start lopping bits off. Replacing the poles with some posh alloy ones would be a good move I think. I'll check the seams too. I always look after stuff and I'm thinking this could have the makings of a very useful tent if it's set up right and used with care. edit: Slight mistake - it's £22.99. It's here btw.

Just been chopping at the 'Solo'. Lots of excess - tent bag, guy lines and loops, heavy elastic loops, steel pegs, peg bag, pole bag, zip pulls, all came to over 500 grams. Replaced guys with dyneema and 'mini line loks', heavy elastic with the finer stuff, and the zip pulls with dyneema - all totalling about 15 grams. Fly's now at 379, inner at 529, 12 pegs at 104 and fibreglass poles still at 295. Finished up with 1.3 kgs and all good fun.
Costs were - tent £22.95. 12 titanium pegs I think £12. I metre black elastic cord 50p. 15 metre bundle of Dyneema inc 6 line loks £5, makes £40.50p which I can live with. Hope to use it all soon. Cheers.

Where did you get the titanium pegs for £1 each?
|
 |
Truth is I've had them a while and they would have been on sale - which is why I bought 12. If they did cost a bit more than £12 it wouldn't be by much. Can't remember where though.
