I've been looking at getting a new stove for a little while now, as some may remember I asked about optimus nova vs. nova+

Originally I wanted a multifuel stove for use year round rather than lack of fuel availability but now the inverted cartridge of the helios has caught my attention.

In theory, the stove works like a multifuel stove taking liquid fuel down the line and then firing a warmer vapour into the burner. Jetboil say it operates to -10 degrees farenheight (-23.3C) but the website suggests the cartridge should be kept warm and swapped out when needed which to me hints that it can't operate at the low temperatures really as you need to keep it warm. Anyone any experience of this stove compared to a MF stove ?

I have the Primus eta packlite but it is the same liquid feed. Liquid feed will be Ok down to those sort of temperatures without much warming but of course will have more pressure if it is warmed. The point is that liquid feed does not rob heat from the canister like a gas feed does, so the liquid feed canister will stay almost at ambient or whatever temperature it is. The gas feed canister will get colder and colder as the liquid gasifies inside the canister. I bought the packlite because it is lighter than the helios, then I cut mine down to 300 grams pot/lid/windshield/handle and burner.

Thanks derek. I did have a look at the primus but must confess the helios' looks swayed me *hides in shame* Realistically I won't be going colder than their stated limit, it was more a question of more "normal" cold tmeperatures to say -9 or -10 I was wondering about.

This is cheaper for  both the guide and standard versions. Seems cheapest for the standard but I'm not sure about the guide and I'm not taking into acount postage cost.

I've got the Helios guide and used it on dartmoor on some cold nights without any problems. i got mine on Ebay shipped from america for £110. I've found it a great stove and it has one of the best wind shields ever!! With both pans it is a bulky stove which is good for group use. the only shame is its not compatable with the jetboil frying pan.
