I am a size 16 with long legs and always seem to have trouble finding reasonable priced and comfortable hiking trousers. The new craghoppers kiwi look nice and so do many softshell trousers.
Last week I lend my old craghoppers to a friend (who only had jeans...but luckily was my size) and walked 10 miles in matalan stretchy trousers (which I wear lots anyway cause they are comfy).
So is it worth investing in more hiking trousers and what do other ladies my size buy and recommend?

If you're comfy walking in your Matalan stretchy trousers and they're going to keep you warm / cool when necessary, even when wet, then you could carry on wearing them.

Montane Terrapants are very nice if you don't mind a more 'technical' trouser, they dry very quickly, are very light, and have quite long legs (though of course everything's relative - mine are size 14 in 'short' leg length which are too long for my legs, but I live with the extra length cos I like the trousers; size guide here). Don't know if they come under your 'reasonable priced' criterion though.

After years and years of searching, I finally found a really comfortable pair of walking trousers last year.   They are the Ronhill Aspiration Soft Tech Pants.   I love them so much that I now have three pairs of them, and a lot of my friends have also bought them.

The are slightly stretchy, with articulated knees.   They are shower proof, and dry very quickly.   Unlike a lot of women's trousers, they don't have an elasticated waistband or or belt.

Gear for Girls are selling them for £45.

Thanks for replying girls, I got my hands on some men's stretchy hiking trousers from decathlon (Quechua forclaz 900) in my size and half price. They seem very comfy and are quite light as well.

Mountain Hardware, in general, tend to provide longer leg length than other brands.  Trouble is, they're not consistent across the range.   They do some beautifully soft fabric though, which I prefer to the feel of the Craghoppers I've fondled.
