I picked up a sky blue one of these for less than a tenner at TKMaxx because I really liked the design and fit. Says its SPF 50+, reduces heat fatigue, quick drying etc etc
I know its intended for boarders for use in and out of water a lot but is there any reason it doesn't make a good hiking garment for base layer or on its own in warmer weather?
I've worn a rash vest wilst walking in summer (baking sun).
They are good on their own (probably better) as they keep you at a fairly constant temperature because they hold a bit of moisture and are more windproof than a traditional wicking base layer. And of course they keep off the sun. Might be ideal for crag climbers.
They do start to feel clingy and clammy if you need to put another layer over the top though.
I bought some similar Adidas vests, also from TK Maxx. They are 'climacool', sleeveless t-shirt/vesty things. They are quite superb. They have a mesh back which is helpful, under a pack. I wear them underneath a Paramo shirt or a windshirt. So far, they have worked very well. Wicking is excellent, no odours as yet and they dry quickly when washed. So far so good for eight quid each or so. I mention this as the fabbric looks similar to the ones in your link.
