I've had my 3l Widepac a little over a year now and I've noticed that if I fully unlock the bite-valve air gets into it (which makes me belchy if nothing else), but if I turn it maybe 1/5-1/4 of a turn back then it's smooth again. Is the bite valve going? If so do people have any compatible valves they'd recommend and any advice on switching them over?

Mine did that for a while when new, but after I completely took the twisty bit off the valve and re-fitted it, it stopped. I think maybe the O-ring had got slightly dislodged. Worth a try!

Thanks, sadly I'm not so sure how to take it apart non-destructively. I feels like it might just rotate off (keep turning past the 'fully open' point) but hopefully this old thread can point me in the right direction. EDIT: Removing the rubber spout and reseating it seems to have fixed it, perhaps when it was fully open air was getting up and in?

Well I tried it again and it's doing the same thing again. Has anyone got advice for taking the valve apart? I can get it out with some mechanical engineering, but actually dis-assembling the valve I'm more relucant to use such force. Failing that can anyone recommend me another good valve, I did like the cap and 90-degree angle of the Source one.

The Camelback bite valves fit the Source tubes fine, and are better designed imo. Most other makes probably would be fine as well — I think the tubes tend to be a standard size.

Moorland Gentlemen, maybe mine just wasn't assembled properly when I first got it, because as you say I can't now twist mine past fully open even with considerable force. If it works fine when turned back 1/4 turn why not just use it like that? Guy, I agree that the Camelback bite valve is a better design, but both my Source packs have wider bore tubing than my Camelback packs, and the Camelback bite valves just about fit but are a bit loose, I think they'd need a cable tie to make sure they wouldn't fall off.

I wonder if Source have changed the bore of the tubes they use. My Source bladder is a few years old and the Camelback valve is a very snug fit.

I have a brand new source bottle from cotswold and the valve is letting air in, as described above. Haven't tried fixing it because I was going to take it back. I'll re-post if I get any feedback from the shop.

Err. Mine has always done that - didn't even realise it shouldn't. I'll have a tinker and see if I can stop it.
