The salomon exit aeros I got in February worked brilliantly carrying a kid on my back around Paris, up and down the metro, through lots of playgrounds and sandpits. They're proving great for local walks, too.
As regards the sandals.... I've recently got some Teva Toachi IIs and presently trying them out. Nice fit and good cusioning when dashing about.
I bought a pair of Berghaus escape, although they look like sandals Darth vader would wear they only cost £10. I have worn them on an 8 mile walk 50/50 on and off path wearing a 20kg pack.I wore socks with the knowledge my feet would get wet to see how they would feel.It was liberating to walk in bog and swamp without worrying about it.
The socks soon dried and it is an approach I will be using a lot more.
having sobbed my heart out on a post ref my swole up toes and feet due to heat and arthritis in spain the other week I was thinking of moving from boots to shoes but now interested in the comments ref sandals. I have a pair of Teva toachies which are the bees knees to me and are my second pair of Tevas. now wish i had taken them to spain with me for trudging about and reverse my normal procedure by putting boots in the ruck. Like the man says, they wont weight any more than they do on ya feet! i bought a cheep pair of flip flops when there and then binned the swines as they were trying to saw my feet in half!! seriously thinking of getting one of those hiking travois with wheel on it and dispense with ruck and boots altogether!! mind u with my luck the wretched thing would take over on the downhill bits and here im afraid hysteria is setting in as we oldies have to go to bed early and get up early sos we can find the bits to get us thrugh the day i.e the teeth, the glasses, the hearing aids, the trekking poles. the list is endless! now i know why i carry a tent! its a warehouse for the medication!!
