I know someone who uses BBQ lighter fuel in their Nova when on cycling trips - as it's available in smaller quantities than paraffin to which it is very similar.

There are many petrol based solvents available in French supermarkets & quite cheap. The last one I was in there were a few with a differenct letter designation. I think the "C" was the best. I tried a couple of the others but the stove pulsed - it was a self-pressurising petrol model rather than a multifuel however.

Spiritburner - have been reading this thread with interest. Having just spoken to my brother-in-law who is a research chemist for BP and used to blend fuels, he says that although toluene and xylene are benzene derivatives they are not presently rated as carcinogens. As I have used some panel wipe for my stove I will get him to look over the panel wipe spec carefully. Hope this adds to the debate.

I've just got my hands on a Trangia multi fuel burner and found out your not supposed to burn normal car fuel in it - unless starving - they recomend white gas. So i read this thread with interest and have also found that Aspen 4T fuel is an exact camper stove safe fuel - no soot or poisness fumes. After much searching I decided that the aspen T4 was a better bet than pannel wipe. I found pannel wipe for sale on line here: http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=176

And after a lot of searching found Aspen 4t available here:  http://www.buxtons.net/aspen-4t-unleaded-petrol.ir?cName=arborist-general-tools-oils-and-greases-oils

I was just having a clear-out and found the receipt for the 4T I bought earlier this year - 5 litres for £12.97 from the local farm supplies shop. Coleman fuel is a thing of the past

I use aspen 4t in my multi fuel cooker and I've been to Norway with it and I've got to admit it works great everywhere I've been even down to temps of -30 takes a bit longer to boil due to melting snow but works great and the lawn mower center in Exeter city center has it in stock all the time. It clean and loads cheaper than the colmans fuel seeing I pay £13 for 5ltra and colmans is £11 for 1ltr hopes this helps

P.s the cookers a primus one £125 from cotwalds and it's easy to us and light you just have to look after it it's a bit fragile

Daniel, I'm very happy with paraffin but always interested to try other stuff.  Where's the centre?  Thanks.
