Well I have got myself some of the extreme gloves, but that was mostly for very cold non rainy weather They're certainly very warm. Possibly quite a lot more so than the Buffalo's.

But I'm not especially inclined to stick them in a bowl of cold water just to find out.....

Kona Grip Convertables

are probably going to be my next glove purchase  - tried them on in Cotswolds and they seem usefully useable.

- unless I can swallow my indignation and part with £40 for some Tuff Bags

The new extreme gloves don't tempt.  The old (90's?) style extreme mitt was good (basically a buffalo mitt with bells on)

Anyone found any good offers for Extremities Velo gloves? I use them as driving gloves, but left the last pair at the cinema. Not that fussed, given that they were as much hole as glove by that point anyway, but I could do with a new pair.

Most of the time I get away with a fairly light non-waterproof glove - Extremities Sticky Thicky, Powerstretch or even a thin Marmot liner glove, but I did get sick of the lack of grip or the way the grip wears off after a while.

But last year I found some great unpadded cycling gloves - Pearl Izumi Pittard Leather gloves - so I bought an XXL pair and I can fit them on over any of my normal gloves. The combination gives fantastic grip, pretty good dexterity, and separates and dries very easily. Better than any supposedly grippy outdoors glove I've ever tried.

The new Montane Resolute Mitts are the ones I'm going to go for.

I'm swapping my Montane Extreme smock for one of the new resolute ones as well. I LIVED it in last winter and it is by far the best top I've ever had.

I'll report on the gloves when I've tried them.

I use a very easy system. A pair of patagonia wool gloves and a pair oif 3-layerd Tuff bags for when it's wet. When my wool gloves get wet I just let them dry on my hands with the over mitts on. Works like a charm when I'm active. So in breaks or during tent-set-up my wool gloves might get wet. After that I just put on my Tuff bags over them and go-on with hiking or do a little evening hike before tucking in. My gloves are then dry again. Till now works like a charm, but I might change my wool gloves for something softshellies (dries quicker). This combination kept my hands warm in at least -15...

"Ditto the lack of really simple/light 'over warm' primaloft mittens."

I bought the extremities 'super duper inferno' with double the Primaloft in preperation for winter.

Very very toasty, hands feel so much better in them... but the gauntlet is a bit short But I will live with that for the lack on discomfort in my hands.

I just bought a pair of the Montane extreme mitts that were mentioned earlier in this thread. £26 ish from the Loch Ness ferry co. They weigh 126 gram the pair before I cut bits off. I will report how warm the pile palm, primaloft back is. I got them as part of a very cold system: fingerless merino liners, powerstretch gloves, the extreme mitts and/or tuff bags if it is really wet or last resort cold.

Derek, I bought mine from the same company (excellent service from them, by the way). Which bits have you hacked? I find them very warm, over a liner, against skin they are OK. Comparable to Buffalo mitts. The palm is a good feature, works well with a pole. I'd have liked an adjustable cuff, as the Extreme glove has. I'm unsure why this has been omitted.

I have not hacked anything yet. Little tabs that hold the gloves to the cardboard for sale will go and the label. With tuff bags I take off the strap on the back of the hand and rely on the adjustable cuff elastic. I change the tensioner to a flush fitting one so that it snags less when I pull my raincoat cuff over it. Unfortunately the extreme mitts do not have both systems so I am not sure what to do yet.
