My 300 is 47cm by 20cm in its bag.

I've done some weighing as well. Total comes out at 4057g with a minimum at 3827g. Half of the saving being the groundsheets for the porches as opposed to really heavy bags. There are 16 pegs at 15.5g each so switching to titanium would easily strim another 100g or so.

Evening Sheepy, I hope you got my pm about the quest?

What is the pack size like on the 300?

Hi FB Weight etc; as John Baily said. Won't bother me too much as it is my sons first tent and he will be carrying it.

Read PM and replyed.

Thats pretty good then compared to the suggested weights which are 4.00kg and 3.80kg total/trail.

I had a vango tent and its weight was alot heavier than advertised so i took it back.

as in 33% heavier. Or was it a third?

so take your scales shopping with you.

Yup, I do that from time to time... Stood in Taunton Leisure with my electronic kitchen scales, weighing the component parts of a TN LC.

Sales assistantt rightly thought I was a nob.

Since last postings, any further verdicts on the Halo 200?

The inner of my Karrimor Beta took a dive in the sea last week, so i'm keen to find a similar semi-geodesic which has twin porches.

Also would it be wise to plump for the new 2011 version for an extra £30 which appears to have been given a boost in the hydrostatic head proofing?

Cheers, EF

Hi, I ended up buying one but as I intimated on my 1st post didn't actually use it for real as the snow was gone before I had a chance. That said it was pitched up in the garden a couple of times for about a week while I was working. It stood up to very heavy rain the 1st week, so much rain that I left it up hoping for a dry day to get it down, no problems whatsoever.

2nd time it was up was during the snow when it ended up looking like an igloo, again no problems, I did sleep in it, the temp was -9 outside/-5 inside and there were no problems with condensation or the like.

See Here

Apart from the weight which I was aware of and can hardly complain at the price it's very good. Workmanship is pretty good, a few threads here and there needed snipped off but that's about it.

Mine weighed in at 3.610g as follows.

Inner - 1035g
Poles - 884g
Pole Bag - 12g
Pegs x 14 - 214g
Peg Bag - 10g
Repair kit - 19g
Porch Half Groundsheet - 54g x 2
Stuff Sack - 72g

Total Less Flysheet - 2354g

Flysheet - 1290g

Total 3.610g

Thanks Richard,  your blog review is very helpful. I found the close-up shots really useful too.

In saying that, I'm still not sure what to get as yet. My head says I should get a replacement Beta, that way I will have a spare flysheet and cross-pole, should one get damaged.

I used the Beta last year on the West Highland Way and at just over 3kg found it bearable to hike with, my biggest weight problem in my pack is dogfood!

I guess the Halo 200 split between two packs would be ok.

...adding another fly in the ointment is the North Face Tadpole 23 which i'm feeling slightly drawn to, even though it has a single front porch.

Cheers again! EF

On this occasion head won over heart. Or should I say wallet over wanting?

I was about to send the remains of my Karrimor Beta to the big campsite in the sky and purchase a new Vango Halo 200.

Minutes away from clicking add to basket, when I had one last scour for a Beta.

A misplaced ad for a (Karrimor Alpa 2man tent)? led me to what was in fact an unused Beta being sold in auction on ebay.

I'm quite chuffed to have snared a replacement for my tent for the cost of...

...well lets just say around the same value as a hearty but prudent meal for two in the Clachaig.

;)
