Matt, the mini trangia is a different animal altogether to the 27 or 25. Very disappointing performance even solo. For me I like the 25 minus the kettle.Cheers.
I'd be picky about when I used a Mini Trangia, Waldo, but one worked fine for me on a couple of summer Pyrenees backpacking trips. I don't think I'd be picking one for a winter trip.

I like my mini T but I wouldn't want to use it day in day out.

I think the mini t or clone in my case needs to have more shelter and is better in warmer conditions. It didn't like being used in february in Scotland when I had it. Still only a few quid to buy. I think I got the whole thing for cheaper than the proper Trangia burner unit costs on its own.

Yeah, I'd only ever use a Mini Trangia with a foil windshield like I use with my multifuel or remote canister stove - the pot stand that they optimistically call a windshield is a joke!

I,ve still got and use the Alpine which I modified to use in the Trangia 25

long before Trangia brought out their conversion.

I buy 5 litre cans of meths from the hardware shop for £12 85p a can.

The Alpine is still usable on it's own. Cheers

Trangia - just can't believe how many people have replaced parts/all of it.  The only change i made was getting a non-stick lid just after buying it, I still even have the original disc of plastic to protect it.

Snowpeak Giga PowerTi without piezo igniter.  So well made.

Epigas Alpine - forgot about that one, tis in a cupboard, heavy though.

OptimusClimber 123, haven't really used it much since they stopped selling 2 star and I got the Trangia.   Brilliant stove though, great noise and flared waay less thanColemans which were crap.

Ah, I had an Optimus SVEA 123 30 years ago - I thought it was great... until the fuel control broke during a Skye backpacking trip. So it doesn't make my best list and I've not bought another when they re-introduced it. The Optimus Nova is a beautiful beast though

Snowpeak Gigapower, very well made as you say - I didn't pay the £25 premium for Ti to save 15g

The mini-trangia, I measured it's fuel consumption is was about twice that of the regular Trangia's. So if its a multi-day trip you're eroding a lot of the weight savings in needing extra fuel. Also, its a dodgy combination of a narrow base which makes the stack easier to fall over, with a need to give it shelter from the wind, imagine you're cooking close to tent , wind blows, flame gets to tent, or it falls over and lit meths across tent floor (which happened to me once in about 1987).

Yes, possibly for an overnighter, but not much more.

The regular Trangia, combination of a wide base for stability, with a robust windshield so you can have it far enough from your tent, makes it a timeless classic. I can start it cooking and then pick up and move it to the tent whilst its cooking. For cold situations, you'd finish cooking, let it cool from hot, then refill burner, then close up and store burner next to body to keep meths warm for a quicker ignite in the morning, effectively avoiding the issues meths has with cold.

Always being a bit of a geek for gear, I see the Ti pans but I also see they don't conduct heat as well and risk of burning food just where the flames touch the bottom.

The Trangia also allows two-dish meals which is close to real food, e.g. chicken curry and rice, can cook the curry then keep it warm as cook the rice via the steam method, via the stacked pans, then pour still hot curry over steamed rice.Between 2 pans and the kettle you can have a lot of variety of food.

I bought other stoves but retured to Trangia, a 25 Duosteel, now the only stove I own.

It depends on the trip, but I often find the fuel consumption issue something of a moot point, especially for longer trips.

Foreign trip e.g. Pyrenees - you fly over, fuel-less. Reach destination, buy a litre of meths or a litre of Coleman fuel... and carry it! I'm not going to buy a litre and pour half away. It also means I've got plenty to cook what I like and drink what I like. Personally I enjoy faffing around with food and brews, I'd hate to feel rationed to '2 x 300ml boils' per day.

Given that that's the position with the fuel, the weight of the Mini Trangia is still a saving over a 27.

Criminal prices for, i was going to say Snowpeak in the UK but change that to just about everything really.  I bought it in the states so the difference wasn't so huge, less than $15 I think, plus the entire thing was about half the UK price so I splurged.

Evernew titanium stove - 34 grms!

Simple, stable, foolproof, and does the job.

No windshield required, as I can use it inside a tent vestibule, or, under a tarp - with care!.  (Once the pot is on the stove hardly any heat is directed up to the fabric of the tent/tarp).

Because it's got two burner rings - top and side - you can put a pot directly on the stove. The top burners go out, but, the side burners will last ages on 25 mls of meths  and will easily get 500 mls of water to boil. There are much quicker set ups, but this is just so basic!

I love playing with stoves, but, this, for me, takes some beating!
