Don't know if it's been done before, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
I made the fatal mistake of putting my boots away while still damp, and now they're as mouldy as something with three types of mould growing out of it.
I'd have considered some more aggressive treatments for them if they were leather, but as they're KSB300s - suede/cordura and a gore-tex liner - I thought I'd ask about first to see if there was a good way of rescuing these or whether it's a good time to book a shopping trip?
Any thoughts on saving my longest-lived footwear greatly appreciated.
Just clean them thoroughly. You could use a proprietary boot cleaner like Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel or whatever you've got in the cupboard. Once clean, leave them to dry and see what's what.
They could already be trashed so I wouldn't worry too much about how you treat them while they're being cleaned.
Firstly, yes, I'm damn sure the mould wasn't from my feet; I'm not a corpse!
Might bite the bullet and wash them in a bicarb solution, then nikwax soap, then dry them... I'm going away today, so won't know til I get back if it's worked. I realise they could already be trashed, but was looking for a chance to save them if they weren't. I don't want to make them worse.
