So what did you call your hat before the ad men invented beanie? anyway a bobble hat that has lost its bobble is still a bobble hat

but it's not technical is it
a proper hat should have about 4" folded up at the sides to keep your ears warm. Nothing makes someone look a right tit more than a beanie that is too small....or a left tit come to think of it

 indeed.

 A bobble hat without a bobble isn't a bobble hat! It's a bobbless hat.

Well I tried a load of hats on and almost thought about the montane peaked cap with primaloft in but it looks pretty bad at least on me. I looked at more beanies and most are too short like my TNF one. The Montane ones are longer and cover the ears well so I go a black one. Wore it today and its great. Perfect warmth for today. Seriously good hat. I also saw a merino hat from BD I think only it was £25 which is too much for a beanie I think. Anyway I have my new winter hat.

Hoorah! My red Montane one came out on the walk with me today, it really is a nice hat

I have a simple rossignol beanie for mild freezing conditions. For worse conditions I grab my Bula hat. Its a hat lined with synthetic wool and large flaps that cover your ears, the flaps can be connected with velcro under your chin. With a buff around my neck I also can cover my mouth and nose when needed. Of course the hat of my hardshell goes over this all. No way something freezes of in this system....

What does it matter what it looks like, d'you think people are going to come up to you on the hill and comment on the cut of your hat FFS!!

Have you never had anyone on the hill come up and admire or revile your gear, R Mac?!

I can't say I have to be honest, you'd wonder why not though as I might be found wearing a lime ME Lightline with a blue shell jacket and red yeti's and carrying an orange rucksack. As for hats, remember the old North Cape fleece hats? 2 bits of fleece sewn together with a different coloured headband, weren't they great, I still have a cerise and black one, I've worn it with a bright green Marmot Essence. Click Here, Warning you may find it's offends your eyes

tank helmet liner. might be german: see kellys heroes film for the style. Paramo cap pretty good, otherwise thinsulate-labelled acrylic beanie from the market, long enough to go down neck a bit and fold double over the ears
