I would highly recommend. Very windproof and more breathable than you'll ever need for autumn to spring. I use it for cycling and running and i hardly ever overpower it.
At the moment I use a long sleeved baselayer under a short sleeved baselayer for walking and find if it gets a bit chilly this is perfect.
The Essential Top has been discontinued but they still have some Small size in their Souk bargain bin (Rohan's sizing is pretty generous IME, I take an L top from most folk but a M from them, I will actually fit their S but prefer longer and a little baggier).
Pete.
Around 20 years ago I had a Rohan top that was very very similar to this, but in a better colour I think they called it moss but it also had a roll down hood which was navy inside. As with most Rohan stuff a brilliant jacket, especially when goretex was really crap. I liked it so much I only got rid of it recently so loathe was I to part with it. But the Featherlite, for me anyway, is more versatile.
Wurz, I think that'll be the Voyager. I still have one, though it dates from a time when (a) I was into baggy, (b) I was fatter anyway and (c) the only one in the bargain bin I was looking through was an XL, so I don't use it much these days (destined for eBay soon, though if anyone wants a nice XL windshirt in return for a donation to MRT/RNLI drop me a line). Mine is a nice bluey green.
The material in that is quite a bit chunkier, and the overall cut on the Essential is (to my mind) improved. There's a better drop-tail and the handwarmer entrances are moved up so you can get in past a rucksack belt. But the Voyager was a nice bit of kit.
I have a used a Montane lite-speed - Not H2o- for the last 2 years. IMO it is very, very useful.
The Hood is good as it is a roll-away. I also find the chest pocket is usefull for thin gloves small key food bar etc. for a wind proof thewater resistance is good.... But for breathability I find it great. On a quick blast up Blencathra in winter 2009/10 it was fantastic. ... and for the weight its a no loose option to take 'as well as a waterproof incase the weather man gets it wrong again and its not raining
I took advantage of the Go Outdoors sale to buy a featherlight smock purley to have a bright - I chose the yellow- option for running. For £20 its a bargin.
The pertex does keep the wind off you, but it doesn't seem as breathable as the paramo, so while the pertex is breathable I can overpower it easily
The Fuera fabric, if you hold it up to mouth and blow you manage to get a little air through it, but its much harder with Pertex. If you also make a small bucket shape out of the garment and pour water in, the Fuera lets more drops of water through quicker than a fresh new Pertex. However, the Pertex wears faster than Fuera. A 3 year old Fuera smock has not worn much a 3 year old Pertex has holes forming and leaks more than the Fuera.
So I'd say yes the Fuera is more breathable a more wear-all-day type fabric. Packed it is about 3x the size of a Pertex smock, a lot of that is due to wired hood and the large zipped chest pocket, but if its an all-day type windproof packed size isn't as important.
