if 1 tog is 0.1 m2k/w (wiki)

is this really 14.5 tog B & Q ?

I was thinking how to reduce weight,  from my multimat (link) and maybe this is an option. If the sums are correct it would only be a question of comfort

I use that stuff for pot cozies but I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to sleep on.

It doesn't pack down very well as it's quite rigid, preferring to fold rather than roll, but it is very light.

I carry a piece for a sit mat and it works really well for that.

It's the high tog value that surprised me

I read somewhere that 13.5 tog is the level for Arctic sleeping bags

but that could all be rubbish if the sums are wrong

You have your units wrong there fella. Its the inverse.

This stuff has a value of 1.455W/m2K whereas 1 Tog = 0.1m2K/w!!

Basically its (1/1.455)/0.1 = 6.87tog which equals between a summer and spring duvet.

I could be wrong but the figure in the B&Q page is like an electrical current type of value but the one in Wikii is like electrical resistance.

BTW 13.4tog is not an Arctic rated bag IMHO. It is a winter duvet rating but that's in a house. I could be wrong but Arctic bags are warmer surely.

that's great

I was never strong on numbers. Thats why this place is so great

thanks so much Lost in Lancashire

at 6.87 togs its more than double the multimat. I might have a go playing with it some night.

Word of caution, is that when compressed?? It could be less if your weight is on it that's all. I have heard some do use similar stuff in summer so still worth trying. Let us know what you think after using it.

The packaging on this foil states a R value of 1.46. You can see for yourself by zooming in on the image on the B&Q link as above.

I've made many pot cosies and sitmats from this product and it works very well. I've also use a section in winter to boost my neo air.

Just trying to understand these insulation maths, m2K/w = R value (si, not imperial)?
