I've got a Mountain Hardwear Sprite 1 tent. I love it - small and lightweight. But on my latest trip i broke the main pole. I managed to splint it, but now I want to replace it.

Does anyone know if you can buy separate tent poles for MH tents? I have looked at their site and searched the net and had no luck. Splinting isn't a long term option and i don't want to have to buy a whole new tent.

On the MH website, use the 'Contact us' and ask them the question as to where you can buy/order. They should be able to solve your problem....

I tried emailing MH but got no reply...

I went into the local store where i bought the tent and discovered that 1) MH don't distribute in Australia any more and 2) even if they did they don't sell tent poles as spares.

Luckily the store had a supply of random poles for sale and I managed to find segments that fit. For anyone else with the same problem aluminium poles from the Wilderness Equipment Second Arrow tent have sections almost exactly the same length as the MH Sprite 1 and are interchangable (phew).

Its I guess no longer cost effective for Mountain Hardwear to have spares.

We have a hammerhead three which was ripped along the zip on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. We have repeatedly mended it using glue and it always rips again, each time a bit further. I intend to try sewing this time. Any advice on wear to obtain in the UK spare fabric or fabric of a similar quality?

Hi Emma

Maybe you can buy what you need or alternatively use the services of :

http://www.imagescotland.com/scottishmountaingear-home.asp

I haven't used them personally, but have read some posts with very positive comments of them

You could try using spinaker tape and sewing.  Spinaker tape is very strong and made of a woven material it sews well although the needle will need cleaning with white spirit or similar as it picks up the glue.  It is used for repairing sails so may not need the additional sewing.
