now then....i'm making a potable barbeque, like a grilliput and wonder if copper piping and bicycle spokes woudl be up to the job?

i'm not intending to grill a mammoth, max dimensions will probably be 12" x 10" or so.

Also, i'd really like to have some spoke nipples stuck to one of the tubes; would 'plastic metal' putty be up to the job? [he said, expecting the answer: no. ] 

Well heat shouldn't be a problem,  personally I would drill the pipe and use the spokes as they should be ie fed through one pipe and through the next to be fixed with a spoke nipple.

What about the DIY stuff used to repair car exhausts?

I've just looked at the price of a Grilliput - £20 on Amazon! Why bother making your own, the price of copper pipe is stupid nowadays and the savings are going to be minimal at best once you've faffed around finding what works and what doesn't.

Each to their own though, necessity is the mother of invention and all that!

Nice idea and good luck with it.

I imagine it would be relatively easy to find old bits of tubing and bike spokes rather than needing to buy it all new.  Way better to reuse stuff than sending it to landfill.
