Hi Guys,

I've got a pair of the  Bear Grylls Survivor Trousers which are awesome, but does anyone know if the rest of his gear is any good? I was thinking of getting the mountain jacket but is AquaDry anywhere near as good as GoreTex?

Thanks,

Steve

AquaDry is is one of the many fabrics used by companies to make waterproofs at a lower price point -- sometimes much lower -- than Goretex garments. Chances are it's reasonable, but unlikely to be as breathable as Gore or eVent.

But probably of more importance is the design of the jacket, because some of the Bear Grylls stuff I've seen has had badly thought out features -- poorly fitting hoods, badly placed pockets and "bells and whistles" that just add unecessary weight. Plus there's the ott branding. I'm not saying it's bad, but have a careful look at what it provides.

Personally i wouldnt by anything branded Bear Grylls id just by the normal Craghoppers stuff rather than pay the extra for a sew on badge.
As to Aquadry material i cannot fault my Kiwi jacket although it only gets used around town and on the school run as i use an Event jacket for serious stuff

I have a BG clima jacket, I bought it in a sale and shortly afterwards the pocket zip broke, (the pocket zips are tiny for what they are) I took it back and got my money back because I could tell they wouldnt cope in the future. I looked around and tried various other jackets and bought a Patagucci to replace it, but..... I couldnt get it out of my mind, the fit was great it has everything that I need (including a blaze orange liner for when im hunting in the USA) I ended up buying another and it has been worn more than my patti, and to be honest I think for me and the fit it provides is better than my patti oh and the pocket zip broke again.

Probably shouldn't say it, but I got put off the bloke when I saw him pissing on his own clothes. That and the alwaysoutofbreath ADHD way he goes about things.

At the end of the day isn't he like SO many other Z list celebrities just prostituting his name in order to get some cash and exposure.

Z list is a bit harsh -- V list at the least. His outdoors adventure/survival/comedy routine does at least have a bit of originality.

After all, not all outdoors folk get a night in a plush hotel and get ferried to their next destination.

Wow you must be the only person I have heard of who has had a good pair of his trousers.

First pair went back with a busted zip - Cragghoppers lost them and only managed to find them again a few weeks later. The second pair the quality of the pockets was atrocious. I had to repair the holes before I even wore them as I wanted to use them instead of another return farce. Put any thing in the pockets which are made of an extremley flimsy orange nylon and you end up with pockets with holes in them. Wow these are just getting better. Put your hands in your pocket when out walking and the stitching is heading for the wide open spaces....

The full stretch ones do look better but craghoppers didnt have any in stock to exchange so I've had my money back and will be going for some Montane Terras - My Yogi Bear trousers coz I'm smarter than the average bear.

However a friend swears that his BG fleece is excellent.
