Please find my 3 month review of the Mountain Equipment Stretchlite Guide Pants incl. photos here

"An admission straight off, this is my 2nd pair of Mountain Equipment Stretchlite Guide Pants so I obviously don’t thing they’re rubbish. With a couple of caveats I actually think they’re very good for general hiking and backpacking in mild to warm climates ................................."

What the hell are 'regular length' trousers?

It's increasingly the case that manufacturers make a range of leg lengths.  This is a Good Thing in stuff that might be hard to hem, because of material or furniture around the ankles like scuff patches or gusset zips. Just as general sizes tend to abbreviate to "Small", "Medium" and "Large", with slightly different values for any given builder, so leg length smay well be "Short", "Regular" and "Long".

ME, according to their web site, that means 29", 31" and 33" inside legs respectively.

Pete.

What I find frustrating is how many manufacturers get the proportions wrong i.e. I'll have a shirt with the arms way too long yet the length around the bottom hem barely reaches the top of my trousers grrrrrr.....

Sorry Peter but I think you are wrong. Regular length means 'all the same length' which means you can't have small or large. 'Regular' is one of the most misused words in the english language. It's like the coffee shops which sell small, regular and large coffees. Since when was regular a measurement of size. Moan over.

Regular as a size is another nasty Americanism?

Anyway I though coffee was Tall, Grande, Venti and if your a lard bucket.... Trenta

Pedro, I think you've spotted that great fallback of marketing departments: pointing out the bleedin' obvious and making it a selling point.

In this case ME will sell you trews where each leg is the same length!

(As for coffee, it more typically seems to come in Big, Bigger, Very Very Big and Enormous)

Pete.

Which raises another issue. Difference in length between right and left leg. This is a regular , sorry frequent , occurrence. The majority of people have different leg lengths.Perhaps ME will have to change their marketing

More useful would be differential shoe sizes.  You could probably sell that one to Mr. Burley, if memory serves...

These have been my regular hill walking trousers for a few years - can't really fault them. Light enough, stretchy enough, tough enough, very comfortable, waist works very well under pack straps, nice belt, dry quick, no problems with stitching, 2 zipped ventilated pockets are excellent, ankle cuffs excellent, thigh pocket is silly but fortunately small and inconspicuous, good price. Have a pair of dark grey XL (36") Long for sale barely worn - I initially bought wrong size. £20 + postage.
