I am currently in the process of trying to develop a new design feature for day-pack sized rucksacks (approx. 15-35 litre sizes). I am carrying out some initial and very general market research to try and get a feel for the target audience I should be considering most in the product development stage before trying to market it.
I have put together a survey of 12 multiple choice questions at the link below which will take a genuine 5 minutes to answer. As I consider the users on this type of forum to be technical users of such gear (e.g. comfort, materials and technical features are of greater importance than colour), it would help me to distinguish whether the product could be suited to your needs or whether it should be worked into a more generic backpack design for a broader less-technical market.
The survey is completely annonymous and does not ask for any contact or sensitive information. I am purely trying to gather a foundation level of information to give my product direction in the development phases.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and thanks in advance for completing the survey.
In case anyone is wondering this appears to be genuine, not some kind of contrived marketing/spam. I'll probably fill one in later.
No offence meant Dom, we frequently get posts from newly created accounts posting links to drive traffic to their sites under the guise of "hey guys check this out" and similar so people are sometimes a little cautious when they see the little "1 forum post" counter and a link.
I filled it in, IMO the best thing would be to make the capacity flexible so that one pack would do .I love my day sack (the back system in particular) but it's an uncomfy carry when overloaded. If I could have the same type of ventilated back on a bigger pack which could be reduced for day walks I would be happy.
No offence taken Matt, thanks for supporting the survey's credibility. I'm not usually a forum user but wanted to get directly in contact with the type of people who know and use backpacks on regular basis.
The project is more to do with the development of a backpack feature as opposed to a new backpack, which I am hoping might be marketable to existing backpack manufacturers under license. As I am in the very early design stages though I'm just unsure of which type of user would find it most beneficial.
I have no idea how far this will get but if it moves forward I'll definitely update you all with my progress and will reveal more if and when the design's protection is confirmed.
I do wonder if there's a gap in the market for another daysack?
I think that's the main problem. There's a huge selection and I'd imagine most people are likely to get either the cheapest they can find or from a known name. And sometimes even good stuff from a known name isn't enough if packs aren't "core business": ME seem to have given up on packs, for example.
