how leaky open pit zips are depends on the weather, in lighter rain with little wind i dont find too much of a problem, i find the wind is the biggest issue with the water getting in

also saw the event jacket (elite 2.0) from the brand "showers pass" which has an additional big back vent (plus pit zips, two way front zip and adjustable cuffs)- so the air can go all the way through the jacket if you want it to. it generally has good reviews except for the very latest one- this guy is really seriously angry and said it was all sweaty and non-breathable and that gore-tex was much better *confused*... guess one just has to try for oneself... but i like the idea of seven vents...

back vents arent any use with  a pack, the pack seals the vent shut, those jackets are usually designed for runners or fishermen.
