Hi all

New here.

I have an Olympus Mojave 3 (info on inner label) tent that was purchased around 1994 (from Olympus Outdoor World). The only other marking on the tent is the words 'Earth Bound' on the front of the fly.

It has been a great tent. That good infact that I would like to get another tent from the same manufacturer if they still exist. It was purchased from a branch of Olympus Sports. It is a full geo design with rip stop Nylon through out and alloy poles. It was aound £250 back then.

Now I expect that Olympus had their tents made for them and just branded as Olympus. It's the real manufacturer that I want to track down. I'm hoping that they have something in their new range that will be a worthy relpacement.

Having looked at all the tent manufacturers that I can find as yet I've had no luck. The closest that I can find is by Robert Saunders but they don't respond to e-mails nor answer the phone.

Any help will be appeciated.

if joy on the above

Any recomemendations for a 3 man 5 pole Geodesic under 4kg with a reasonable porch and front and rear openings? Happy to spend up to £500 for the right tent. I have looked at all the usual suspects but as yet not found the 'one' closest yet is the Eureka K2 XT. The inner tent of it is the same as my old tent so perfect.....the exterior is the right shape but the colour is horrid and I don't want the front window!

That's a pretty tough set of specs.  I think the TN Ultra Hyperspace might be the top and bottom of your list, but it fails the price point by over £200.

On the other hand, are tunnels out of the question?  A Hillie Kaitum 3 (still over budget, I'm afraid, but I think you get what you pay for) will fit 3 properly, there's two big porches (better than the Eureka and TN mentioned) and it comes in nearly a kilo under your weight limit.  Very easy to put up and it goes up all in one, and you can take the inner down for extra internal party space.  And it is a proper 4 season tent.  It'll move about a bit more in a blow and be noisier, but that's not the same thing as "fall down".

Pete.

Hi Peter

I'd be happy to spend a bit more for the right tent, if it lasts as long as the one that we are replacing. I can go up to 5kg at a push.

I'll have a look at the TN you have mentioned. We do like the stability of the Geo tents. I have a couple of tunnel tents that I don't use at the moment due to them being out of favour with me.

Hi, Craig. This may be worth a look. I had one and was really impressed but had to sell it.

Amazon - Coleman Phact x3.

Sorry, can't seem to get the link to work!

Does look a bit like the Saunders Space Trek, but that was out of "print" quite a long time ago I think, even if you can get in touch with Saunders (it is a literal cottage industry, could be just a case of off on hoilday!)

Pete.

Do a google search for Alpkit tents. Their geodesic mountain tents are meant to be launched soon. I think there is a video of them on Terrybnds blog too.

Worth checking out... prices tba but should be good as it's Alpkit.

(a search on this site for Alpkit tents will bring up some info too) Late Summer 2011 launch it says.

Probably fair to assume it was made by one of the UK manufacturers given the date,

Phoenix - My guess it's unlikely they made yours, Generally Fly 1st pitching, No Longer on the Scene anyway.

Ultimate - IIRC made Inner 1st pitching, Looks vaguely similar to some of their Dome Tents, like Phoenix, Ultimate aren't around anymore.

Wild Country/Terra Nova - Generally Inner 1st pitching -

Saunders -  Another possiblity as Peter says, worth perservering but I suspect if it isn't current it will be expensive even if they could make a one-off.

Wintergear - Another possible maker of your tent but like Phoenix and Ultimate there aren't around anymore either.

Ironically the ones who aren't around are probably the most likely to have made tents for other retailers.

Sadly I suspect you'll have to look to another manufacturer.

Or just win the lottery and get a Hilleberg Saivo... if you're after a 3 man geo at not more than 5 Kg it's in the "as good as it gets" bracket: big porches, plenty of room, good venting, easy to pitch, demountable inner for extra party space, bombproof.  Just a rather frightening price tag (probably just short of £800 at Alpenstock)

That's pretty tough set of requirements. Do let us know if you've found something that fits all the criteria!

Its the price that's the real killer there. There are a handful of tents that come close to your requirements... TN Hyperspace, Vaude Power Atreus, Exped Venus III, Vango Spindrift 300 spring to mind. Most things will be too expensive, too heavy, single-doored, small porched or some combination of the above. Especially for under 500 quid!

Having spent the last few days looking I think that to get what we want we are going to have to increase the budget. That Hillie looks a good tent. as does the TN.

I have just spoken to a very helpfull Josie from Alpenstock who will be sending me a Hillie brochure. I have decided that it's worth spending extra to get the right tent.

Thanks all for your help.
