It rocks at what it was designed to do.... what do you want it for?

£198..... no brainer really!

Aaron,

The Changabang is a good jacket. I'm assuming that for 198 you're looking at flea-bay, so just be sure to ensure that the jacket is of the "pro-shell" variety of gore-tex.

The only thing that may catch you out is that, being a mountain jacket, it is of a relatively short cut. That aside, it's awesome!

As John says it is a short jacket. I bought one a few years ago but sold it on as it was too short.

If you want a winter walking jacket get an ogre or kongur, I have a kongur and its a cracking jacket. I dont climb so I couldn't comment on how it performs,  but it is short.

Yeah I like a short cut jacket and it's from snow and rock last week they had it for 198 on their website but they don't anymore so I phoned the store and they have one aside for 198

Well clearly not rubbish and a decent reduction with it. Indeed highly likely good to excellent for its intended uses.

Worth noting though that those really aren't 'normal' walking for which it looks heavily over specified - snow skirt, seemingly a heavier face fabric than many of theirs (I assume for  crashes when skiing) etc. That does all make it a really rather heavy - and (at full rrp!) expensive -  jacket.

Certainly if just walking there are multiple entirely efficient, really much lighter options which you could get at around that sort of price - and the weight difference (150-300g) is quite large enough that they'd just be a lot better for normal walking.

So I'd say it depends if you want the features. Of course if you do then it is. Oh and of course, regardless of anything else, it really does have to fit!

Martin - good points all. The fringe benefit of it being a pretty heavy face fabric is, however, that it's tough as old boots! I use mine as my "go-to" jacket for nearly every eventuality bar summer walks on a sunny day, from normal walking to skiing, and as such I'd say it's actually pretty good value, as it means I can do without things such as a dedicated skiing jacket. Admittedly I didn't pay RRP either, but then who does?
